Justin Simien Is Still Grieving Over Canceled 'Lando' Series
Former Showrunner Justin Simien Opens Up About His Grief
Justin Simien, the former showrunner of the canceled 'Lando' Star Wars series, is still grieving the loss of the project. In a recent interview, Simien shared his feelings about Disney's decision to scrap the series, which was set to star Donald Glover as the iconic character Lando Calrissian.
A Painful Blow
Simien described the cancellation of 'Lando' as a "painful blow" and said that he is still struggling to come to terms with it. "I put my heart and soul into that show," he said. "It was a dream project for me, and to have it taken away was devastating."
Simien said that he learned about the cancellation in the worst possible way - through a news article. "I was blindsided," he said. "I had no idea that the show was in jeopardy, and then suddenly it was gone."
A Shift in Plans
According to Simien, Disney's decision to cancel 'Lando' was part of a larger shift in plans for the Star Wars franchise. "Disney was moving in a different direction with Star Wars," he said. "They wanted to focus more on the core characters and stories, and 'Lando' didn't fit into that plan."
Simien said that he understands Disney's decision, but he still believes that 'Lando' would have been a valuable addition to the Star Wars universe. "It was a unique and exciting story that would have brought a fresh perspective to the franchise," he said.
A Lasting Impression
Despite the cancellation of 'Lando,' Simien said that he is grateful for the experience of working on the project. "It was a dream come true to be part of the Star Wars universe," he said. "I learned so much, and I made some lifelong friends."
Simien said that he is still proud of the work that he and his team put into 'Lando,' and he hopes that one day the series will see the light of day. "I'm not giving up hope," he said. "I believe that 'Lando' is a great story, and I'm determined to find a way to bring it to the screen."
