Ex-Post Office Boss Paula Vennells in Tears

Former Post Office Chief Executive Paula Vennells has been recalled to the inquiry investigating the Horizon scandal that led to numerous wrongful prosecutions of sub-postmasters.

Vennells previously gave evidence in the inquiry in 2021, where she was accused of misleading Parliament about the Horizon computer system, which was found to contain numerous bugs and flaws.

During her earlier hearing, Vennells was criticized for her lack of knowledge about the Horizon system and for failing to take responsibility for the scandal, which led to the wrongful convictions of sub-postmasters.

The latest hearings will last 15 weeks and will hear evidence from other key figures in the scandal, including former BT Chair Adam Crozier.

Vennells has been stripped of her CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) over her role in the scandal.
