Tennis: Swiatek AVENGES Loss to SABALENKA in MADRID OPEN FINAL
A thrilling victory for the POLISH STAR
Iga Swiatek, the world number one, defeated Aryna Sabalenka, the defending champion, in a thrilling Madrid Open final on Saturday. Swiatek won the match 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) in a match that lasted nearly three hours.
Swiatek avenged her loss to Sabalenka in last year's final. Sabalenka had won that match in straight sets. This time, Swiatek was able to come back from a set down to win the match.
The match was a back-and-forth affair, with both players having their chances to win. Swiatek was able to break Sabalenka's serve six times, while Sabalenka was able to break Swiatek's serve five times.
In the end, it was Swiatek who was able to come out on top. She won the final set in a tiebreaker, giving her the victory.
This is Swiatek's first Madrid Open title. She is now the first Polish player to win the tournament.
