Haaland Breaks Mini Goal Drought, Mahrez Shines
After a disappointing goalless draw against Aston Villa, Manchester City returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion on Saturday, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium. Erling Haaland, who had failed to score in his previous three appearances, ended his mini goal drought with a well-taken finish in the 15th minute.
Riyad Mahrez was also in fine form for the Cityzens, scoring a stunning goal from outside the box just before halftime. The Algerian winger continued to torment the Tottenham defense throughout the match, setting up Bernardo Silva for City's third goal in the 55th minute.
Tottenham pulled a goal back through Dejan Kulusevski in the 64th minute, but Haaland restored City's two-goal lead just minutes later with a clinical finish.
The victory moves Manchester City back to the top of the Premier League table, one point ahead of Arsenal. It was a much-needed win for Pep Guardiola's side, who will now look to build on this momentum as they prepare for a crucial Champions League clash against RB Leipzig on Wednesday.
